Have Fun in a Ford Fiesta

The Fiesta is definitely here to stay. It has been around for a long time and the latest one is so much more than just a small city car. It has modern design, lots of features, four distinctive trim levels, sedan and hatchback body styles, engaging cornering and a performance ST model that is one of the most interesting cars to drive anywhere in the vicinity of its price range.

Design of the Ford Fiesta

A first look of the Fiesta shows a modern car. However, the Fiesta has had a similar shape for just shy of a decade. The fact that just minor styling tweaks make it look completely within the current standards and even noticeably more interesting than some competitors with more recent design patents should be enough to show you what a successful styling effort the Fiesta has been.

In its latest iteration the Fiesta sports a low, protruding grille and large, elegant headlights. The doors have an angled crease that that shoots upwards and gives a more stable look to the hood and roof lines. The contrast beautifully resolves at the rear which has high taillights, stylish roof spoiler and a prominent diffuser. Of course, we are referring to the hatchback model, which is a far more common version of the Fiesta. The sedan gains a bit in terms of practicality, but the rear of the hatchback is just so much more handsome. And Ford feels the same, making the beastly ST hatch only.

Interior of the Ford Fiesta

On the inside the Fiesta is similarly modern. Infotainment screen is placed high up and it is very bright which makes it easy to read even on very sunny days. Front seats offer sufficient space and support not often found in this class. The gear lever may look a bit high at the first glance, but take a ride and you will fall in love with how close it is to the steering wheel. Even with more timid engines, the Fiesta is as fun to drive as its ergonomics are designed to promote driver engagement.

Instruments are large, easy to read and clearly separated which also adds to the sporty feel of the vehicle. Fit and finish are also very good, noticeably better than some competitors. Even though the Fiesta is a subcompact, it gives the feeling of quality and durability.

Being a small car, the Fiesta is not designed to haul loads of cargo. However, there are many storage options for small items, especially for the ones in the front two seats. There are several bins and four cup holders. If you need more cargo space, the fact that the rear seats fold will help.

Engines and Drive of the Ford Fiesta

The 1.6 in all but the ST produces 120hp and 112 lb-ft of torque. This is sufficient for this small car, although it will break no speed records. If this is what you are after than the turbocharged 1.6 EcoBoost in the ST model is exactly what you need. It produces 197 hp and 202 lb-ft and it is a real pocket rocket that can provide fun even for an experienced corner carver.

Steering is amazing. It is precise and sharp, with feedback that beats many bigger cars and the Ford Fiesta’s chassis is tuned for sporty driving. If this makes you smile, go for the ST, as its power rating complements the sporty feel.

Suspension is set up to give confidence and agility. When driven more aggressively, the Fiesta is wonderfully responsive and easy to steer, giving enough feedback to make you feel connected to the road.

Being a small car with a short wheelbase not many people would consider the Fiesta a good cruiser. It is designed to carve city streets. However, it is among the most relaxed and quietest cars in its segment on the highway.
